How I Wear Belts with a Short Torso

Having a short torso means your ribs and hip pretty much are touching, which makes belts tricky to style.

BELTS I AVOID

Thick belts - they take up too much space on my short torso. The only way they don’t take up visual space is if they’re the same color as your outfit and you’re using the belt to cinch in the waist. BUT! Thick belts are usually too thick for my waist since I have no room for a waist. So no thick belts for me.

Hard belts - if a belt is too rigid, it’s not going to be very forgiving for my frame. The only way a rigid belt works is if it's thinner.

THE FEW BELTS I WEAR

Matching belt with top: If I’m wearing a black top and light pants, I’ll choose a black belt to match the top. This will lengthen my torso visually.

Matching belt with rest of outfit: If I’m wearing a light-colored outfit, I’ll choose a light-colored belt. It adds interest without cutting me in half.

Matching belt with coat: I usually wear my coats open, so matching my belt to my coat gives the waist-cinching illusion that my coat is closed and ties my outfit together.

Cloth belts: Soft belts are more forgiving and movable to wherever you think is best. Casually tie a cloth/soft belt around your waist or hips and it instantly looks chic. Important tip: cloth belts usually match your coat or dress, helping it all to blend together too.
